Lucas Cuny, currently serving as Faculty Chair of the San Bernardino Valley College TV & Media Program, has done much to support independent filmmaking in the Inland Empire. In April 2012 he established Slate Inc. whose mission is to support the aspirations of young and upcoming filmmakers through education, advocacy, and support. The organization seeks to close the gap between studios and first-time film artists, and to encourage the artistic efforts of local artists and revive local filmmaking industries.
He has been a force behind the return of the 48 Hour Film Project to the Inland Empire, and in 2021 served as director of the (online) International Student Film Festival at SBVC. The festival received 91 submissions from as far away as Indonesia and as near as San Bernardino.
Lucas earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colombia College, Hollywood where he presided as president of the Associated Student Union from 2000to 2001.
